Douglas "Doug" (Sam McMurray) — Chandler's new boss in "The One with the Ultimate Fighting Champion". A friendly, boisterous and good-natured but also ego-centric man, Doug enjoys calling Chandler "Bing!" and slapping his male colleagues on the backside as a symbolic way of congratulating them for thier good work, indicating that he personally has little, if any, intimacy issues with other men but at the same time is so shallow, self-absorbed and close-minded that he lacks the ability to look at things through the perspective of other people and is therefore incapable of realizing on his own that other men might have them. At some point, Doug, his wife and the rest of Chandler's co-workers met Joey, and Chandler implied that he greatly irritated them and drove them all crazy with his stupidity, telling Monica in the midst of informing her how much they all loved her after he introduced her to them, that he believed she had "repaired a lot of the damage from when they met Joey." Monica and Chandler try to compete with Doug and his wife in "The One with Chandler's Work Laugh" (Season 5, 1999). Both Doug and his wife are irritated and bemused by Monica's ridiculously overly-competitive attitude during a tennis game. In "The One with Ross's Step Forward" (Season 8, 2001), he invites Monica and Chandler to dinner to celebrate his divorce. To get out of it, Chandler pretends that he and Monica have split up but it backfires when Doug tries to cheer him up by taking him to strip clubs, drunkenly throwing cans at birds and throwing his wedding ring into the gutter.
