David, "the Scientist Guy" (Hank Azaria) - A physicist whom Phoebe falls in love with in "The One with the Monkey".[e 13] After a fight with his research partner Max (Wayne Pére), David decides to go on a research trip to Minsk with him, breaking Phoebe's heart. He returns to New York for a brief visit in "The One with the Cheesecakes"[e 34] and shares an evening with Phoebe. He returns permanently in "The One with the Male Nanny"[e 35] and he and Phoebe resume their relationship in "The One with the Donor".[e 36] In The One in Barbados - Part 1,[e 37] David proposes to Phoebe. She turns him down and gets back together with Mike, and David leaves.
